Microsoft Access IT Training

Anyone who has never used Access before (or any other database package).

Delegates must be confident in using Windows and a mouse and at least one other Windows package (for example Word or Excel).

By the end of the course, you will be confident in using the essential features of Access to create and alter simple relational databases.

In particular you will be able to:

• Understand what a database is for and when you need one
• Find and amend information
• Extract specific information from your database. For example, show only the organisations with more than 1000 employees
• Understand when you need more than one table in your database and create tables that link together
• Create a list of choices to choose from when keying in information
• Create a user friendly form to use for keying information in across different tables
• Create reports for the information you extract to provide professional looking output

Anyone who has used Access before to create and alter simple queries and reports.

Delegates must be confident in using Windows and a mouse and at least one other Windows package (for example Word or Excel). You must also have some working experience of Access. For example, creating simple queries and reports (see our Access Introduction, Easy Start, Essentials or Essentials Fast Track outlines).

By the end of the course, you will be confident in using Access to create more advanced queries and reports. For example, creating calculations and statistical information and improving the layout of your reports.

In particular you will be able to:

• Create queries that prompt you for specific information. For example, set one up to ask ‘Which department do you want to see?’
• Create queries that group information together and then count the number in that group
• Add up numerical information and create statistical analysis of this
• Import information from an Excel spreadsheet into a table
• Create queries to delete, update and add information in a table
• Create a report with calculations
• Improve the layout of your reports. For example, changing and adding standard text, aligning and formatting information
• Create a report with a running total. For example, show how much you have spent on training after each course attended is added

Anyone who has used Access before to create a simple one to many relational database. (This course does not cover programming.)

Delegates must be confident in using Access to at least our essentials level. For example, creating tables, creating a one to many relationship, creating queries, reports and forms that view information across more than one table (see our Access Essentials outline).

By the end of the course, you will be confident in creating a more user friendly and automated database.

In particular you will be able to:

• Create a many to many relationship
• Create a user friendly form based on a many to many relationship
• Create a list of choices for keying and viewing information
• Create a form with tabs on to view lots of information easily
• Use features like command buttons and macros to automate your forms
• Create automated forms to run reports and queries
• Create a menu system for your database to make it more user friendly

Anyone who is a self-taught Access user at a basic level.

Delegates must be confident in using Windows and a mouse and at least one other Windows package (for example Word or Excel). You must also have some working experience of Access. For example, creating a simple table, have an understanding of what a relational database is, creating and designing a form based on one table and creating simple queries.

By the end of the course, you will be confident in using the essential features of Access to create and alter simple relational databases.

In particular you will be able to:
