Microsoft PowerPoint online sessions are comprised of live, online moderated workshops using web conferencing software, e.g., Microsoft Teams or Zoom, PowerPoint, and blended with self-directed study assignments after the training.
There is access to live, online tutor support throughout the course, and email support afterwards. Pick from any of the 90-minute sessions.

Session – Creating presentations
Who should attend?
This session is for anyone new to PowerPoint, who wants to get a basic understanding of the PowerPoint environment and how to manipulate slides.
Requirements
Participants must be confident in using a mouse and saving, opening and closing files.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will be proficient in using the essential features of PowerPoint to create and alter a simple presentation.
What you will learn
- The Ribbon, differing views and the Quick Access Toolbar
- Create a blank presentation or use a design template
- Switching between differing views
- Inserting, modifying and resetting slides
- Selecting more than one object
- Formatting options with object
Session – Working with master slides
Who should attend?
This session is for anyone who wants to give slides a consistent format throughout a presentation, including the positioning of logos, using a standard font and design colours.
Requirements
Participants must be confident in using a mouse and saving, opening and closing files.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will be proficient in creating a presentation which has consistent format throughout all slides.
What you will learn
- What are Masters
- Changing the font and background on a master slide
- Inserting headers and footers
- Altering indents and bullets
- Adding a logo to a slide master
- Setting up a design template
- Creating a theme to apply a standard design
Session – Pictures, shapes and connectors
Who should attend?
This session is for everyone who wants to use pictures, drawn objects and connectors to produce more visually appealing slides and produce slide diagrams.
Requirements
Participants must be confident with file operations and be familiar with adding and manipulating slides.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will be proficient in inserting, positioning and editing shapes, connectors and pictures.
What you will learn
- Inserting, positioning and editing pictures
- Drawing shapes and lines
- Formatting shapes
- Creating copies of objects
- Adding text to shapes
- Alignment and distribution options
- Free rotate and stacking
- Adding connectors between drawn objects
Session – Charting, SmartArt and tabular layouts
Who should attend?
This session is for anyone who wants to add charts to a presentation, produce quick diagrams and tables.
Requirements
Participants must be confident with file operations and be familiar with adding and manipulating slides.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will have the skills to add charts to a slide from a variety of sources, e.g. Microsoft Excel, use SmartArt graphic templates and tables.
What you will learn
- Produce charts from data entered in PowerPoint
- Add charts from Microsoft Excel and be aware of the implications of the differing paste options
- Create, edit and format tables
- Use SmartArt graphics, e.g. to produce an organisation chart or circular diagram
Session – Animation, transition and slide show settings
Who should attend?
This session is for anyone who needs to set up a slide show for a presentation.
Requirements
Participants must be confident with file operations, be comfortable working with slides and selecting slide objects.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will have the skills to add animation and transition effects to slide objects, use slide show options and insert videos.
What you will learn
- Transition and animation effects
- Customising animation effects, e.g. adding entrance, emphasis, exit and custom path effects
- Presenting a slide show and using quick keys
- Adding sound and video to a slide
