Microsoft Visio online sessions are comprised of live, online moderated workshops using web conferencing software, e.g., Microsoft Teams or Zoom, Visio, and blended with self-directed study assignments after the training.

Session – Basic techniques
Who should attend?
This session is for anyone new to Visio who wants to get a basic understanding of the Visio drawing environment and manipulate shapes on a page.
Requirements
Participants must be confident in using a mouse and saving, opening, and closing files.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will be familiar with navigating around the Visio environment, using shapes and stencils, and formatting options.
What you will learn
- Describe the differences between a stencil, template, and drawing
- Find and use other stencils
- Use the shapes window to manage quick shapes
- Select and manipulate shapes placed on the drawing page
- Alter page settings and understand auto-sizing options
- Work efficiently with shapes using zooming features
- Move, copy and resize shapes
- Add and format text
- Use the text block tool to alter text positioning
Session – Process flowcharting
Who should attend?
This session is for anyone wishing to understand the differing connector types in Visio and to wanting to create a basic flowchart.
Requirements
Participants must be confident in using a mouse and saving, opening, and closing files.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will be familiar with the differing connector types and be able to align and distribute shapes.
What you will learn
- Connect shapes using:
- Auto-connect
- The Connector Tool
- Drag and drop shapes
- Connectors from a stencil
- Point to point and shape to shape connections
- Align and distribute shapes
- Use guides on a drawing page
Session – Organisation and cross-functional charts
Who should attend?
This session is for anyone wishing to understand the differing connector types in Visio and to wanting to create a basic flowchart.
Requirements
Participants must be confident in using a mouse, file operations, and connecting shapes.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will be familiar with creating an organisation chart and how to use the process flowchart template.
What you will learn
- Create an organisational chart structure
- Use the organisational chart wizard and Excel
- Use the cross-functional flowchart template
- Add, edit and delete swim lanes
Session – Multiple Page Drawings
Who should attend?
This session is for anyone wishing to understand the differing connector types in Visio and to wanting to create a basic flowchart.
Requirements
Participants must be confident in using a mouse, file operations, and connecting shapes.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will be familiar with foreground and background pages to produce consistent layouts and quickly move between pages.
What you will learn
- Insert new pages
- Reorder pages
- Create Foreground and Background pages
- Rename Pages
- Use hyperlinks and the double click option to move between pages
- Apply themes, custom theme colours, and effects
- Save a drawing page as a picture to embed into other products, e.g., PowerPoint.
