Word Level 1 online courses comprise of live, online moderated workshops using web conferencing software, e.g., Microsoft Teams or Zoom, Word, and blended with self-directed study assignments after the training.

There is access to live, online tutor support throughout the course, and email support afterwards. Pick from any of the 90-minute sessions.

Session – Basic techniques

Who should attend?

This session is for everyone who wants to get a basic understanding of Word, e.g. selecting and formatting text.

Training Requirements

Attendees must be confident in using the keyboard and mouse.

Aim

By the end of the session, you will be able to create documents and apply paragraph and font formatting.

What you will learn

  • The Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar
  • Create a new document
  • Enter and edit text
  • Selecting Text with the Mouse and the Keyboard
  • Moving around within a document
  • Show/Hide
  • Font and Paragraph formatting
  • Format painter
  • Cut, Copy, Paste and using the clipboard

Session – Layout options

Who should attend?

This session is for everyone who wants to get to grips with layout options in Word, e.g. different headers and footers for sections within a document/applying a mixture of bullets and numbers to a list.

Training Requirements

Attendees must be confident in using the keyboard, mouse and selecting text.

Aim

By the end of the session, you will be able to alter the layout of a document, page or selection of text and use bullets and numbering on a serious of points.

What you will learn

  • Page Margins and Orientation applied to a whole or partial document
  • Adding Headers and Footers to all or part of a document
  • When to use section breaks
  • Applying bullets, numbering and multi-level lists

Session – Styles

Who should attend?

This session is for everyone who wants to give documents a consistent layout and format.

Training Requirements

Attendees must be confident in selecting text and understand paragraph formatting options.

Aim

By the end of the course, you will be able to develop a template for regularly created documents and include styles so that formatting can be consistently applied.

What you will learn

  • Apply, modify and create Heading styles
  • Gain an understanding of when to use character, paragraph and linked styles
  • Set up a document template to include standard text and Heading styles
  • Generate a Table of Contents from Heading styles
  • Create a design theme and style set
  • Use and create Building Blocks for standard blocks for text
