Session – Tables, tabs and quick parts
Who should attend?
Participants will gain an understanding of laying information in a tabular format by using tables and tabs. Also, to store and automatically put ‘standard’ text into a document.
Training Requirements
Attendees must be confident in using the keyboard and mouse and also, must be familiar with entering text, selecting and basic formatting.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will be able to work with tables, tabs and use building blocks to store and reuse text, graphics and tables.
What you will learn
- Use the table grid, insert table option to create a table
- Amend a table by adding and deleting rows or columns
- Table styles to apply quick formatting
- Applying borders and shading to a table
- Layout data using tabs, e.g. decimal, left, right and centre
- Use and create Building Blocks for standard blocks for text
Session –Mail merge and working with graphic objects
Who should attend?
This session is for everyone who wants to personalise mailings to groups of people and use graphic objects in a document.
Training Requirements
Attendees must be confident in using the keyboard and mouse and also, must be familiar with entering text, selecting and basic formatting.
Aim
To enable participants to use mail merge to personalise mailings to a group of people and control the layout of inserted graphics.
What you will learn
- Preparation of an Excel worksheet as the source data for a mail merge
- Main document creation and inserting fields for a mail merge

- Creating mail merge labels
- Inserting pictures and shapes into a document

Session – Tracking and cross-referencing
Who should attend?
Participants will gain an understanding of the available diagrams in SmartArt, referencing parts of a document, and how to review a document using track changes.
Training Requirements
Attendees must be confident in using the keyboard and mouse and also, must be familiar with entering text, selecting and basic formatting.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will be able to insert quick diagrams into a document, creating links to parts of a document and use tracking to review a document.
What you will learn
- Create Diagrams with Smart Art
- Use Cross References, Bookmarks, Hyperlinks, Footnotes and Endnotes
- Work with more than one document
- Use Track Changes to review a document
Session – Fill in forms and working with charts
Who should attend?
This session is for everyone who wants to develop a fill-in form in a Word document to control the entry of data and embed charts in a document.
Training Requirements
Attendees must be confident in using the keyboard and mouse and also, must be familiar with entering text, selecting and basic formatting.
Aim
By the end of the session, you will control how charts are shown in a document and use different controls in a fill-in form to capture information.
What you will learn
- Creating and editing charts, e.g. from Microsoft Excel
- Three methods for pasting a chart into a Word document
- Design a fill-in form
- Familiarity with differing fill-in fields
- Protect and save a form as a template
