Have you heard about live online learning?
Have you heard about Live Online Learning?
No? Well if you have not heard about it yet, you will do. Live Interactive Online Learning is starting to really take off.
As we move further into the digital world, more and more of our time is spent online. We create documents and save them to online locations whether that be Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud, Google Drive or any other online storage location.
Therefore, it makes sense then that our learning moves online with us.
What about YouTube?
We have had online learning for some time, with many people subscribing to learning channels on YouTube or to recorded content offered on platforms like Udemy.com – in fact The IT Training Surgery has courses on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint on Udemy.
However, this kind of learning is simply for consumption. There is not much interaction. The trainer/facilitator is not present, everything is recorded. This has its merits, a video tutorial can be watched again and again. However in our experience most people learn best by doing.
Learning by Doing
Most people prefer to actually do things rather than just be shown how. A demonstration is great, however you will learn much faster if you perform the steps yourself and if you get to practice on your own so much the better.
That is why Live Interactive Online Learning is different.
Its Live
Yes, that means it takes place in real time. Participants log on to an online training space and a facilitator is there to greet them. Questions can be asked and answered, exercises done.
Its interactive
Participation is key. Just like in regular classroom based learning, there is lots to do. Polls, Quizzes, Chat, Q&A, open microphone.
Interaction is designed into the learning on a frequent basis.
What kind of courses can be delivered this way?
Well now glad you asked. Just about anything. From Health and Safety, through design to Microsoft Office.
Over the next few blogs I will explore the Online Classroom in more detail.
