Save in Different Formats in Excel 2010

If you work with people who are still using an older version of Excel you may want to save your spreadsheets in a compatible format.

Here are some steps to follow when you want to use Save As Type to Save in a different format when using Microsoft Excel 2010.

You can choose to save your document in different file formats.

The most important type is Excel 97-2003 as this format makes your document editable in previous versions of Excel.

If you want to send a read only copy of your document to people who do not have Microsoft Excel, you can save your document as a PDF file.

Save as Type options

ExcelSaveAs1

In the Save As dialogue box:

  1. Click on the drop down arrow by Save as Type (1)
  2. Select the file type you want to use (2)

If you save a spreadsheet in Excel 97-2003 format, those with older versions of Excel will be able to open and work with the spreadsheet. However if you have used any new formatting or features, these may not be avaialble. When you save in the older format Excel will tell you which features may not work.
