Using the Alt key in Microsoft Excel 2010

Quick Tip for Microsoft Excel 2010

Here are some quick steps on using the Alt key in Microsoft Excel 2010

The Alt key can be used to access functions in Excel without having to go to the mouse.

ExcelAlt1

When you press the Alt key, letters and numbers appear next to the ribbon tabs and the QAT shortcuts.

ExcelAlt2

When you press a letter on the keyboard (in this example, P) the ribbon appears and each function has a new set of letters.

So, for example, to go to the Orientation options:

  1. Alt (to bring up the shortcuts)
  2. P (to select the Page Layout tab)
  3. O (to select the Orientation options)
