Headers and Footers

In Microsoft Excel 2010 you can add extra text to the headers and footers in spreadsheets. The type of information you can add can include page numbers, current date, file path and sheet name. You can type on the left, right and centre of a header or footer.

These areas are also available in the footer.

Inserting text in headers and footers using the insert tab

  1. Click on the Insert tab on the ribbon
  2. Click on the Header & Footer icon

  1. Type the text you want to appear in the Header (1)

  1. Scroll down to the Footer (or click on the Go to Footer button)
  2. Type the text you want to appear in the Footer (2)

Inserting other elements into the header or footer

  1. Ensure you are in headers or footers
  2. Click into the header or footer area you want the element to appear
  3. Click on one of the icons from the Header & Footer Tools contenxtual tab (e.g. Page Number) (1)
  4. A code appears in the header or footer area (2)
  5. Click into the main part of the spreadsheet (away from the Headers and Footers) to see the text
